The Balfour Golf Course

The Balfour Golf Course is a Les Furber designed 6,400 yard, 18-hole layout that provides the premium golf experience in the West Kootenay region.

When starting your round in Balfour, you will find yourself meandering through the tightly knit forest that is signature to this level strip of land that sits above Kootenay Lake on a very walker friendly nine holes of golf.  Three of our four par five scoring holes will be behind you once you've putted out on number four so it comes highly recommended that you arrive to the first tee with a few warm up shots under your belt..  This somewhat unusual routing to our front nine was a result of a club house, parking area and first tee location change during the development of our back nine.

Speaking of our back nine, get ready for a much different experience than you had on your opening nine holes.  Upon arrival to the tenth tee box you will immediately notice a drastic difference in undulation and elevation that will remain a design characteristic for the remainder of your Balfour golf experience.  Do not be fooled by the three hundred fewer yards found compared to our front.  Course designer, Les Furber, created some very contoured green complexes that will challenge your short game prowess and place added importance on finding the proper section of the green on your approach shots.

As you near the end of you Balfour golf experience with your tee in the ground on the sixteenth, get ready for one of the best finishing stretches that you will find on any golf course, anywhere!  Sixteen is a nice, down hill par three hole that measures 179 yards at its longest and rewards the golfer who has solid distance control.  Seventeen, our signature hole, is the long awaited fourth of our four par five holes which culminates on a relatively benign green that provides incredible views over Queens Bay and the main body of Kootenay Lake.  Wrapping up your round, hole 18 provides you with those same epic Kootenay Lake views while challenging you with a blind tee shot and drastically down hill approach to likely the most severely undulating green of them all.

Following your round you’ll be rewarded when paying a visit to the  Osprey Mountain Grill for a little apres golf banter.  With a simple yet quality food menu and an extensive list of beverages sure to satisfy any golfers taste, there is no better location to cap off your Balfour Golf experience.
