About Balfour

Situated above the majestic shores of Kootenay Lake, Balfour, British Columbia, is home to one of nature’s most scenic golf courses. This unique 18-hole layout combines excellent tee-to-green playing conditions, a warm and welcoming atmosphere and a stunning mountain back drop to provide one unforgettable golf experience.

Owned and operated by the Balfour Recreation Commission, the Balfour Golf Course began as a 9-hole, community-built facility which first opened for business in 1990.  In 2002, the original layout—which now comprises our front 9-holes—was expanded to the 18-hole, championship golf course that we now enjoy.

Drive 25 minutes southwest of Balfour along scenic Highway 3A and you will find yourself in the heart of historic downtown Nelson, British Columbia. Renowned for its eclectic arts scene, diverse restaurants and boutique shopping, the ‘Queen City’ is a haven for outdoor adventure seekers of all ages and interests. Head north from the golf course and in 10 minutes you will be soaking in the rejuvenating mineral waters at the Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort. A further 20 minutes north, and the village of Kaslo awaits with its small-town charm.  It’s well worth a visit!

Whether you are a local golfer or just visiting the area, the Balfour Golf Course is the premium golf destination in the West Kootenay region.  There is an abundance of adventure opportunities in this scenic corner of British Columbia offering a unique experience—a rare mix of mountain lifestyle and big city buzz.
