Introducing Balfour Golf & Recreation

February 9, 2022

Today marks the start of a new era for the Balfour Golf Course along with many of the recreation facilities found in the Balfour area.

Did you know that the Balfour Golf Course, which opened for play in 1990, was developed by, and is owned and operated by a small not-for-profit society known as the Balfour Recreation Commission or the BRC?  This is a true statement and today's e-mail marks our first step toward creating better awareness in the general population as to what the BRC is and why we exist.

The cornerstone to BRC operations is undoubtedly the beautiful Balfour Golf Course.  What many are not aware of is that the Balfour Recreation Commission is also caretaker of the Balfour Community Hall, the Balfour Fitness Centre, the Balfour Community Park, and the Balfour Public Wharf

The reputation of our golf operation both locally and among those visiting the area has grown exponentially in recent years and is quickly becoming regarded as the benchmark for Golf Experiences in the West Kootenay region.  With the increased exposure and steady growth that our golf operation has been realizing, it was quite natural for us to look at evolving the brand to encompass all BRC operations.  For too long there has been a disconnect between our golf operation and ‘those other things that the BRC is responsible for’ and this ‘Brand Evolution’ as we’re calling it, will bring everything that we do under one umbrella.

No longer will we have one website for the golf course and another for the Balfour Recreation Commission nor will we be using multiple social channels to provide updates and information on our various operations.  Instead, we will be combining everything into one, more streamlined presence under the Balfour Golf & Recreation banner.

In terms of communication, our current database is comprised primarily of our golfing clientele who can expect to see the same frequency of golf-centric e-mails to continue, with a sprinkling of information dedicated to our other facilities.  Moving forward, we will be working to create a distribution list dedicated to residents of the Nelson Kootenay Lake area, whether full time or part-time, that may be interested in the goings on at our other facilities.  To start this group off we will be including the contact information for all current and former seasonal golfers, all current and former Balfour Recreation Commission Members along with anyone currently listed in our Kootenay Resident data base that we confirm lives between Nelson and Kaslo.  If you would like to make sure you are a part of this list, please follow the update your preferences link at the bottom of the e-mail that brought you here or if you would like to join our e-mail list, please click HERE.  If we’ve added you to this list and you start to receive non-golf communication that you are not interested in, you can follow that same link at the bottom of our e-mail for updating your preferences.

Thank you for taking a minute to read over this exciting update which marks the beginning of a unified brand for all Balfour Recreation Commission operations to work within moving forward.
